BUTUAN CITY, March 12 – Mindanao cannot afford another all-out war in the magnitude of the ‘70s that brought a wide swath of destruction to lives and property and a stagnant economic growth in the region, according to a ranking Muslim official.

Sukarno Muhamad, regional director in Caraga Region of the newly created National Commission of Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), tearfully related his experience and the hardship of tens of thousands of civilians affected by the fighting between government forces and the then Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in southern Philippines during that gloomy period of the country’s history.

Gov’t intensifies peace partnership with Indigenous Peoples PDF Print E-mail

MANILA, March 12 – The government is working hand-in-hand with indigenous peoples (IPs) to formulate an action plan peace agenda for IPs conflict-areas.

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Annabelle T. Abaya told 17 representatives from indigenous communities from all over the Philippines at a workshop-forum on Thursday that the government will also intensify other aspects of the peace process such as gender, climate change and rights of indigenous peoples.

Lanao people hail reflective dialogue as enlightening PDF Print E-mail

ILIGAN CITY, Mar. 11 – The people of Lanao hailed the holding of the reflective dialogue here because they were enlightened of the ticklish issues to be resolved in the peace process.

All of the 421 participants who attended on Tuesday the “Dialogue Mindanao” at the Elena Tower would like to see a peaceful settlement to the decades-old armed conflict in southern Philippines soonest.

It was the second biggest number of participants that attended the series of 13 dialogues conducted by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP). The largest was in Jolo where more than 500 attended the first reflective dialogue.
